Mock Trial

The ESC Gifted Services Dept. coordinates with the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education, the Portsmouth Bar Association, Judge Howard H. Harcha, III, and local sponsors to offer a District Mock Trial competition site in Scioto County. Students from local schools compete at the Scioto County Courthouse in Portsmouth, Ohio.

The objectives of Mock Trial are to:

• Improve critical thinking, reading, writing, public speaking and listening skills

• Develop understanding and appreciation for the law, court procedures, and the judicial system

• Understand constitutional rights and responsibilities

• Recognize and reward students’ academic and intellectual achievements
